Ship Group Notes – 6th March 2010
By Helen (minor edit by Robert)
Party: Lassa, Erik and Mayner (T’rynn absent but played by Seth when needed.)
Opening Note: This is only a transferring of the notes I had taken down at the time of the game and will not be quite the same when it is fleshed out and written properly. :>
In Bibali, Lassa has to pay six gold to bailout some of her crew from the local jail, which she took out of the ship’s fund. She’s hired some new crew to replace the ones which she had to bury. And she had her First make sure to send out the effects for the departed crew to their families. Mayner and T’rynn are having no problems at any of the taverns. We suspect there were rumors from out of our last port which might have exaggerated the tales of the dwarf and sea elf who love to bar hop. ??? Speculations run amok and Mayner and T’rynn are heavily disappointed!
We head out in the morning. We head back to our target area, which takes a few days to get there. T’rynn’s hawk reports there is a ship headed northeast from us. So we head that way and soon the crow’s nest spots it, too. It’s an armed merchant, so we drop back below the horizon and trail the merchant for four days, using the ship as involuntary bait. But there are no pirates. We break off and are back in our area in a couple of days. We approach the area where the wreckage is reported to be and the hawk reports that there is a ship at anchorage at that spot.
We drop back below the horizon and have to wait a day for the moon to be right. We decide to attack at night with Mayner and Lassa out in a longboat each with a charge wrapped for transport in the water. We move the Wind Saber up closer, with no light showing, then launch the longboat, rowing toward the dark elf ship as quietly as possible. When close Mayner and Lassa slip off into the water with their charges on their backs. They swim out together to the dark elf ship’s hull then split. Mayner places his charge on the bow with no problems, as does Lassa on the rudder after several intense rolls. Both break away and swim back quickly. There are some high-pitched whistles in the water close, but not too close and direction is uncertain. One of the charges goes off, but neither of them is pausing to look back to see which one. They are trying to swim back to their boat as quickly as they can. Lassa gets a glimpse at something in the water behind them, as does Mayner. They see three orca in pursuit. They reach the longboat and Lassa gets right up into the boat and tells the crew that there are orca in the water behind them. Mayner makes it on his second try. Erik fired his pistol into the water as Mayner was trying to get into the boat. The boat gets rammed once but they back off and just follow as the crew rows back to the ship. They make it to the Wind Saber. Lassa now knows the bow charge was the one to go off. With the damage, she decides to go on the attack against the dark elf ship. Also, since the orca would just follow the ship and report back to the dark about the ship’s location – as long as they want – she thinks this is the best option for ending any future problems with them now, eliminating the threat.
The ship takes flight as dawn comes. They are tacking the winds heading northeast. We give chase. During the next night they change course and head northwest, towards the dark elf lands. Lassa had counted on that and we manage to catch up a bit at first. The pursuit continues for six days more, when finally a storm comes up. The Wind Saber is swept closer to the dark elf ship by the storm coming up out of the south – behind us. We get hit by the storm first, then the dark elf ship is engulfed. We are separated by the storm. We lose a large sail and six crewmen, but manage to get up a smaller temporary sail in its place. After over thirteen hours of pounding, we come through the storm and find out the ship’s been landed solidly on a beach. We then discover that the dark elf ship has been washed up on the same beach, about a mile away. Using the spyglass we see a lot of dark elves working all over their ship.
Lassa orders two of the swivel guns/powder/shot grabbed as well as all important valuables, food and water as well as the crew off the ship. She makes sure all the hatches are battened down and secured. We leave with the ship between us and the dark elves, then when we have cover, we turn for the forest and foliage. We explore the immediate area a little and find a good spot to set up the guns then run in to attack the dark elf ship. We only leave behind T’rynn and two crewmen, so they can guard the valuables. T’rynn was hurt during the storm but wants to help out with the guns. When we come back to the beach, we see the dark elf crew were, for the most part, headed over to attack our ship. We run up to their ship. Erik mixes in with our crew and when we board the ship, he sneaks down an open hatch. He is going to look for the cylinder while we keep the remaining crew busy up on the deck. Lassa and Mayner spearhead the attack with the rest of the Wind Saber crew doing their parts. Erik encounters a dark elf crewman below decks and has a long fight. Lassa finally kills her dark elf while Mayner takes out five of them. Lassa ends up losing another seven crewmen in this fight. Erik finally slays his dark elf and then finds the captain’s cabin. There is a long crate with a nailed down lid which looks about right, so Erik grabs it. As he is dragging it back down the corridor, he is met by some of the Wind Saber crew, who came to help him out. He has two of them carry the crate and we get off the ship and run into the forest. Mayner chugs a healing potion which only gives him a couple of health points back. All told we left twelve dead dark elves on their ship. The dark elves see us leaving their ship and chase us into the forest. Erik runs ahead and joins the gunners as we get past and collect the stuff we left behind and Mayner throws T’rynn over his shoulder. Everyone runs for our ship except for the ambushers. Before we leave the forest, we hear the ambush going off. Eight enemy are hit and six of them are dead. The ambush crew runs for the ship. We load our cannons and swivel guns with grape-shot and when our people are safe, we fire on the dark elves and take out another fifteen of them. At night we put out a longboat with a sail and T’rynn aboard to get help at the nearby elven ports. Lassa had figured out the Wind Saber’s position by the stars, so knew where to send them off to.
So we just hunker down, defend and wait.
